What
is a Baby Mentor?
Babymentoring
...
is a holistic service for mothers and babies.
A baby mentor seeks to address both the practical and the emotional
needs of parents.
We
all know that becoming a parent whether for the first or the fourth
time is a wonderful experience, but we all need help and support
sometimes, whether it is with practical issues such as sleep or
feeding, or with emotional issues associated with becoming a mother.
Sometimes we worry that we haven't bonded with the baby, or we
become anxious that we can't meet our babies' demands.
The
challenge of parenthood ...
Having a new baby can be a challenging as well as a wonderful
time. It is a time of major challenge and adjustment and not all
of us get the help and support, and importantly, the sleep, that
we need. Sadly many of us find we lack confidence in our parenting
ability. Having someone around who can listen and make practical
suggestions can make all the difference
betwen feeling exhausted and lonely to being a confident, happy
parent.
Filling
a gap in services ...
In most areas support for mothers and babies is either full-time
maternity care or occasional visits from a health visitor. The
first is beyond the means of many and the second is often just
not enough.
Babymentoring
... is meant to fill the gap in between. How much or
how little contact you have with your babymentor
is up to you. She may come every day for a couple
of hours or spend a day a week with you, or anything in between.
The idea is that she will provide a flexible visiting service
with telephone support in between visits. The arrangement
could last a week or months depending on your needs.
